Sync-health monitor for large WooCommerce catalogs

Follow-up run testing the pivot from the earlier throttled-sync report: a plugin that watches whichever Meta/Google sync plugin a store already uses and alerts on failures.

Follow-up: this run tests the pivot from Throttled catalog sync for large WooCommerce stores (PIVOT 61).

01

Verdict

PIVOT

The pain holds up. Different store owners, across four sync plugins and three sites, describe jobs that stall for days while dashboards say there are no errors (e1, e7, e10). But the monitor as pitched doesn't clear GO. Nobody visibly pays for monitoring on its own: the closest WP.org twin, CatalogCanary, has fewer than 10 installs, and a Shopify monitor has 0 reviews. Feed vendors already email on failed runs. Google pushes approval changes for free. Reading Meta-side status needs App Review. The pivot left to test is an agency multi-site watchdog that reads local jobs only, pre-sold before any build.

Sync-health monitor alongside existing sync plugins

Pain 7: two high themes from different authors on WP.org, wpde.org and the Merchant Center community, mostly from 2026 (e1-e12, e20). Not 8, because posters noticed and asked for help, and few say they left. WTP 4: stores pay for Pro feed plugins (e22-e26), a substitute, but there's no evidence anyone pays for monitoring alone (e43, e52). Gap 4: Google covers big drops for free (e28) and pushes approval changes through its API (e55); WP Product Feed Manager and RexTheme already email on failed runs (e53, e38); CatalogCanary ships a stuck-run watchdog (e50); six other 2026 entrants do local audits (e34, e36, e37). A cross-plugin job monitor wasn't found. Fit 6: local job watching is core Woo work, but Meta status needs App Review (e57). Reach 6: the WooCommerce Facebook group (e46), Woo Slack (e47), wpde.org (e9) and the GMC community (e20) exist, but only WP.org shows volume, and it bans promotion (e48). Build 5: a local MVP takes weeks, but platform reads need OAuth verification (e58) and a hosted endpoint.

03

The gap

The opening competitors leave, backed by what their customers say.

WooCommerce stores with thousands of products that already run a sync or feed plugin can't tell when sync quietly stops, because the plugin dashboards and job logs report "no errors" while products stay unsynced or feeds go stale, and the free platform alerts only fire on large Google-side drops.

Google Merchant Center + Merchant API

free

Product data alerts allow Google to notify you by email as soon as a problem with your eligible products is detected.

Strong at

  • Default email when active products drop significantly (e28)
  • Real-time approval-status push API (e55)

Weak at

  • Only Google-side, and only large drops by default
  • Doesn't see the store's own stuck jobs
  • “Product data alerts allow Google to notify you by email as soon as a problem with your eligible products is detected.”
  • “By default, an alert will be triggered if a significant drop in active products is detected for any combination of target country and Google surface (for example, US + Shopping ads).”

Meta Commerce Manager / Meta for WooCommerce

free

Manually : regularly check the Diagnostics view of your catalog.

Strong at

  • Per-product validation box in Woo (e32)

Weak at

  • Monitoring is manual or build-your-own API (e30, e31)
  • Email alerts unconfirmed (e56, third-party)
  • “Manually : regularly check the Diagnostics view of your catalog.”
  • “Programmatically : build an API integration to automatically report warning and errors based on your Product Feed upload sessions.”

CatalogCanary

free + Pro (price not captured)

When the feed breaks — products silently vanish, required fields go missing, a run hangs and never finishes — you find out weeks later when your ad performance craters.

Strong at

  • Stuck-run watchdog (e50)
  • Slack alerts in Pro (e51)

Weak at

  • Meta only; replaces the feed rather than monitoring alongside it
  • Fewer than 10 installs (e52)
  • “Stuck-run watchdog — a separate check catches runs that started and never finished, so a dying cron can’t take your feed down quietly.”
  • “There is a paid version, CatalogCanary Pro, which adds change diffs showing exactly which products left the feed and when, exclusion rules by category, tag, stock state, price or SKU, and webhook alerts into Slack.”

Product Feed Manager (RexTheme) / WP Product Feed Manager

freemium

New: Add smart feed health monitoring with admin notices and email alerts for failed or incomplete feed runs.

Strong at

  • Vendor-owned failure emails (e38, e53)

  • Only for their own feeds; alerts paused (e39) or noisy (e54)
  • “New: Add smart feed health monitoring with admin notices and email alerts for failed or incomplete feed runs.”
  • “Tweak: Temporarily disabled the Feed Health Monitor proactive error alerts”

Feed Health Monitor / FeedProof / PodSync (2026 WP.org entrants)

free; PodSync paid alert add-on

No Feed Generation Required This plugin does not generate product feeds.

Weak at

  • Local data audits, not job or platform monitoring (e36)
  • 0-10 installs each (WP.org API)
  • “Admin Email Alerts: Notifies store administrators automatically if new critical errors emerge or if catalog health score drops past a configurable threshold.”
  • “No Feed Generation Required This plugin does not generate product feeds.”

Strong at

  • Merchant Center-connected alerts (e41)

Weak at

  • Shopify only
  • 0 reviews (e43)
  • “Feed Guard watches your Merchant Center, explains in plain language what is wrong, and repairs the product directly inside your Shopify admin.”

The case against

A separate critic pass argued against this. Here is what it found.

Risk: A direct twin already exists: CatalogCanary ships a stuck-run watchdog and Slack alerts, yet has under 10 installs.

  • “Stuck-run watchdog — a separate check catches runs that started and never finished, so a dying cron can’t take your feed down quietly.”

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: Nobody pays for monitoring alone: a Shopify monitor has 0 reviews, and CatalogCanary has fewer than 10 installs.

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: WP.org forums, where the pain lives, ban promotion.

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: Feed vendors already email on failed runs (WP Product Feed Manager, RexTheme) and can improve that cheaply.

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: Google side becoming free: real-time approval-status push API, plus a default drop email.

  • “Product status changes : Receive real-time alerts when a product approval status changes (for example, when a product becomes disapproved or approved) across any of your linked accounts or sub-accounts.”

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: Meta may already email on catalog errors (third-party source only).

  • “which might trigger notification emails or similar updates when logging in to the business manager.”

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: Reading Meta-side status needs catalog_management App Review.

  • “Your app will need to get approved Catalog permission ( catalog_management ) via App Review before going live.”

Answer: Unresolved.

Risk: Google Merchant API requires OAuth verification.

  • “Apps that access the Merchant API must go through the OAuth verification review process.”

Answer: Google says verification typically takes 3-5 business days (e59).

Risk: Someone tried and died.

Answer: Two searches found no shutdown. The pattern is entrants with no traction, not deaths (e52, e43).

How to win

Specific moves that pull customers to you instead of them.

The watchdog for the sync plugin you already run: it tells you when the dashboard says "no errors" and nothing is syncing.

Switching triggers

A plugin update leaves feeds or sync frozen

→ Answer the thread with the Scheduled Actions diagnosis (no links on WP.org)

  • “now show last update being the 20 April 2026 (so the daily feed has stopped working from then)”

Offers that win switchers

Build first

  1. Pending/failed Action Scheduler watcher for gla, wc_facebook, adt_pfp and woo_feed hooks pain: jobs stall quietly (e5, e6, e10)
  2. Feed file staleness and item-count drop alerts pain: missing products (e1, e3, e18)
  3. Multi-site agency digest pivot buyer (e60, e61)

08

Pricing and cost

Pricing

Test a $149/yr agency license (unlimited client sites), not $79 per store

Single-store monitoring shows no buyers. Agencies already pay multi-site tiers and sell monitoring as a service (e60, e61).

Competitors: $4.99/mo Shopify monitors to $249.50/yr agency feed tiers; Optmyzr from $209/mo

09

7-day test

One experiment, one pass bar. Run it before writing code.

Offer 10 WooCommerce agencies a refundable $149/yr founding license for a local-only multi-site sync watchdog.

Pass bar (7 days): 3 prepaid licenses in 7 days

  • Day 1: list 20 agencies from the Woo Slack and the Facebook group
  • Days 2-5: DM with the 'dashboard says no errors' story
  • Day 7: count prepaids
